Biden to meet with influential GOP senators on infrastructure plan

President Biden will sit down with six influential GOP senators next week to discuss possible areas of agreement over his emerging $2.25 trillion infrastructure spending proposal.

The White House confab is scheduled for Thursday and will include Sens. Shelley Moore Capito, Pat Toomey, John Barrasso, Mike Crapo, Roy Blunt, and Roger Wicker, a White House official told The Hill.

“They will have a dialogue about policy areas of mutual agreement and identifying common ground on which they can work together and deliver results on the challenges facing American families,” the official said.

A rep for the White House did not immediately respond to request for comment from The Post.

The meeting will take place a day after Biden is expected to discuss the plan with Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy.

Senate Republicans led by Capito have offered their own scaled-down infrastructure plan that would allocate just $600 billion and provide what they say would be more targeted assistance.

Divisions remain over how to pay for the plan, with Team Biden looking to finance it by increasing corporate taxes from 21 percent to 28 percent, something Republicans are expected to uniformly oppose.

“There isn’t any appetite in our conference for a tax increase on job creators,” Wicker told the Hill.
