‘Do not overwater your orchids!’ Gardening expert shares how often to water orchid

Gardening expert Michael Perry, also known as Mr Plant Geek, shared his tips on how to care for orchids at home. Michael shared exactly how often you should water your orchids and what type of water to use. On ITV’s This Morning in 2018, Michael also shared how to use household items to keep your orchid healthy.

Michael also said you can use bananas as a plant “tonic”.

He explained: “Banana puree – one inch of banana skin, puree that with two cups of water and then you’ve got your tonic for your plants.

“You give that to them three times a year. That is your Holy Trinity.”

Another household item Michael recommended using is “tea bags”.

“For a stronger root system stronger more kind of buxom plants – really healthy plants.

“Then, milk. You can use that to give the leaves a bit of a shine.

“Rub it across the leaves in order to get rid of hard water deposits that may be around the home. That’s really easy.”

Orchids often come in transparent containers with their roots exposed.

Michael said putting orchids in an opaque container “won’t do any harm”.
