On Sunday evening, GB News held a segment on the return of Donald Trump to Twitter and the importance of free speech. Host Mark Dolan welcomed the former president back to the social media and said: “As the world’s first orange president returns to this social media platform, it’s a victory for him, a victory for his supporters and most importantly a victory for free speech.
“Because you can love Donald Trump or you can hate him, but free speech is non-negotiable. It doesn’t come with terms and conditions.
Mark Dolan added: “The late great Winston Churchill always put it perfectly, he said: ‘everyone is in favour of free speech, hardly a day goes by without it being extolled. But some people’s idea of free speech is that they are free to say what they like, but if anyone else says anything back that is an outrage.’ So true!”
“The return of Donald Trump to Twitter is annoying all of the right people.”
On Saturday evening Elon Musk wrote on Twitter that “the people have spoken” and said more than 51.8 percent of the 15 million people who voted in favour of Donald Trump returning to the social media platform.
Donald Trump was previously shut out of Twitter, as well as other social media platforms, in 2021 due to the risk of an incident of violence a few days after the January 8 Capitol riots.
Elon Musk has previously described himself as a “free-speech absolutist” and said earlier this year he was in favour of lifting Mr Trump’s ban, and he said: “I would reverse the permanent ban.”
The former president began his own social media platform, called Truth Social after being banned off Twitter, and it is currently unclear if Trump will return to Twitter as he has said: “I don’t see any reason for it.”

GB News’ Mark Dolan said the banning of Donald Trump shows the “ridiculous overreach of the tech censors in America”.
The host added those in charge of social media platforms tend to be “highly politically motivated” and said this was demonstrated “by the fact that the Russian government, the Iranian regime and the Taliban no less, have Twitter accounts.”
He said: “Whilst, the previous incumbent of the White House Donald Trump, the man who has never started a single war unlike many of his predecessors, lay in digital exile.
“Over the last couple of years, tech censorship has got so bad. Unelected, out-of-touch, US-based, hoodie-wearing billionaires have been imposing their politics on the world.
“Whether we like it or not, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and others, are now the new town square, and we’ve seen debate stifled at a critical time in human history.”

Mark Dolan continued: “It’s not up to the woke billionaires in San Francisco or Palo Alto to frame the premiers of free speech.
“The ability to express your view, however, unfashionable or unpalatable is sacred to Western values and the foundation of our great democracies.”
The journalist advocated for free speech and said: “Anything within the law is fair game, knock yourself out.
“Countless brave men and women have fought and died for freedom of speech which is why I won’t stand by while it gets pickpocketed by a narcissistic 20-something in California deciding what’s acceptable and what isn’t.”
GB New ended the segment by saying: “So welcome back Donald! I’m already looking forward to those late night tweets in capital letters. Keep doing what you do best, tapping out your opinions on a computer and triggering the world. After all, the keyboard is mightier than the sword.”
