Emotional Kyle Sinckler says missing out on Lions selection has been the toughest moment of his life.

Lions coach, Warren Gatland, decided to leave Sinckler out of his 37-man squad for this summer’s tour of South Africa.

The decision has left Sinckler, who has been a regular under Eddie Jones in recent years, feeling ‘angry’ and confused.

The 28-year-old is, however, eager to use his experience to help the younger generation by becoming a positive role model.

Having been named Man of the Match for Bristol’s win over Bath, Sinckler revealed how he was feeling about the selection.

He told BT Sport: ‘I’m not going to lie, I am quite emotional. Yeah it’s been tough. It means so much to me.

‘I am just lucky I have my mentor at Save Your World and we broke it down and I understand why and the reasons why.

‘In a year or two I’ll look back on it and it’ll all make sense, but right now it doesn’t it doesn’t make sense.

‘What I wanted to do was lead by example and show the kids. How easy would it have been to play the victim and say how bad is it, you know, sorry me and throw my toys out of the pram.

‘It’s been so tough. I have never experienced something like this in my whole life let alone my career. I am just lucky I have a good support team around me.

‘It’s been tough and I just wanted to show the kids and the people around me how much it means to me.

‘I wanted to lead by example and do the tough stuff – get on with it. Use that anger.

‘I have got so much anger inside me at the moment but I need to use that in a positive way and do all that unselfish for the team.’

Many supporters assumed the Bristol Bears prop would have been one of the first names on the team sheet, let alone the squad list.

Sinckler made his name on the 2017 tour to New Zealand and was viewed as odds-on to be in Test contention once more following a strong Six Nations.

However Gatland has opted to go in a different direction in the front row, selecting props Mako Vunipola, Wyn Jones, Rory Sutherland, Tadhg Furlong, Andrew Porter and Zander Fagerson.
