George Russell and Sergio Perez among seven summoned by stewards after Austrian GP sprint

George Russell has been summoned to the stewards for an alleged breach of FIA regulations. The Mercedes driver has been called in for “messages to drivers during the second formation lap”.

A Mercedes representative has been called to a report with the stewards at 18:15 local time (17:15 UK time). Six other drivers were also summoned to the stewards for an identical breach including Sergio Perez.

Esteban Ocon, Mick Schumacher, Daniel Ricciardo, Lance Stroll and Sebastian Vettel have also been called in. The drivers were forced to do a second formation lap after Xhou Gunayu’s Alfa Romeo broke down moments before stopping for the grid.

However, Article 33.1 says drivers “must drive the car alone and unaided”.

This suggests the drivers called in may have received messages from their engineers relating to their vehicle ahead of the second start.
