Gwyneth Paltrow is waxing poetic ahead of her 50th birthday.
The actress turned Goop founder published an essay Thursday paired with a photo of her bikini-clad self frolicking in a field as she reflected on the hopeful feelings she has about her half-century of life.
For the actress, who will officially reach the mark on Sept. 27, turning 50 is all about acceptance, slowing down and life “getting sweeter.”
“I accept the marks and the loosening skin, the wrinkles. I accept my body and let go of the need to be perfect, look perfect, defy gravity, defy logic, defy humanity,” Paltrow wrote. “I accept my humanity.”
She shared the same photo to her Instagram with the caption, “Musings on a milestone,” as she directed readers to her reflective essay.
Paltrow’s last on-screen performance was in 2020 for Netflix’s “The Politician” before she stepped away to focus on her wellness brand Goop. Her movie and TV career earned the actress many awards including an Oscar, Golden Globe and an Emmy. But in her post, she admits that now those accomplishments mean less to her.
“Accomplishments (or things I did), though known and quantifiable, feel part of this linear past, less relevant,” Paltrow wrote. “My errors, which live in the shadows, slippery and dark, are harder to define. Not because I don’t know what they are, but because we keep them hidden, out of the logbooks.”
She added that for her life to “transition into the sweetness” she wants to focus on her life’s mistakes for “the mind to adjudicate” and then “into the heart, to be forgiven.”

“I have hurt people, never intentionally, but I have done so just the same. I have let people down by not being who they needed me to be,” she wrote but states that she isn’t sure she wants to “correct” her mistakes.
“These transgressions against myself or others has led to something,” Paltrow wrote. “They have led me to a path of questioning. Of seeking a better version of myself.”

For her 48th birthday, Paltrow stepped into the social media spotlight by celebrating with a nude photo. However, for her 50th, Paltrow’s tone is leading her to retreat further away from the public with plans to “slow down” and “make my circle smaller.”
She concluded with hopes that her children will be able to reflect on how they saw their mom step into her fifties, much like she observed her parents reaching the milestone.
“I hope that they can feel me feel all the things and hold in the complexity of that notion. That they know I am both good through and through, yet sometimes not,” she wrote. “That my feelings of regret and my mistakes can act as scaffolding for what I build from now on.”
