Hawaii volcano eruption: Alert level stepped up as 'stay indoors' warning issued to locals


The eruption of lava has continued over the past 24 hours at the Mauna Loa volcano in Hawaii, the service said, as people with breathing difficulties have been warned to stay inside. 

The US Emergency Alert System issued a warning on Monday morning. 

It said: “HAWAII: Eruption underway at Mauna Loa. Lava flows are currently contained to the summit. Ashfall Advisory issued for all of Hawai’i island. People with breathing difficulties should stay indoors.”
