Jack said he ‘resented’ the responsibility that fell on his shoulders, but now regrets how he treated his mother as a teenager.

‘I miss my mum,’ Jack said, before describing the single mother as a ‘caring and loving’ person.

‘She’s always worked three or four jobs just to keep a roof over our head,’ he added.

‘Our relationship has been hard over the years. When I won [Australia’s Got Talent], our dynamic completely switched and I was the breadwinner.’

Jack went on to say that he felt like he was ‘parenting himself’ for a few years.

‘There was nothing she could do but I almost felt like I was almost parenting myself. I have so much resentment now that I can’t control. I think in here I’m just reflecting on how I wish I’d treated her better,’ he said.

Jess comforted Jack and said his mother would have already forgiven him.

‘Through a mum’s eyes, mum’s don’t think that, that’s what kids do, they say mean stuff to parents,’ Jess told him.

She made Jack smile when she said: ‘There wouldn’t be a mum on this planet that wouldn’t be proud of you, mate. My God, you’re gorgeous. I’d have you as a child. You’d have the best teeth in the family!’

Jack rose to fame as a fresh-faced teen on Australia’s Got Talent in 2011.

In January last year, as he prepared to make his music comeback, he told Daily Mail Australia that appearing on AGT felt ‘like a lifetime ago’.

Jack, who took part in The Voice in 2019, admitted he had to step away from the spotlight to ‘grow up’ before returning to the public eye.

‘It’s pretty insane looking back that it happened. It was an incredible experience and I’m so grateful for it,’ he said.

‘It was also so nice to have that break as well to chill out, grow up and be a kid for a little while and to come back over the last year.’
