Inside Sergio Ramos' heartfelt phone call with Carlo Ancelotti before Real Madrid exit

Sergio Ramos reportedly made a heartfelt plea to incoming boss Carlo Ancelotti before leaving Real Madrid this summer. Ramos joined Paris Saint-Germain after 16 years at the Bernabeu after his contract with Los Blancos expired.

The 35-year-old became a club legend in the Spanish capital and helped his former side enjoy a sustained spell of dominance during his time at the club.

He captained Real to four Champions League trophies in five seasons between 2014 and 2018 and also won five La Liga titles during his time at the club.

But Ramos was involved in a contract standoff with the Spanish giants in the latter stages of last season as he battled to extend his Real career.

Los Blancos had offered Ramos a one-year contract extension but had withdrawn the offer before the defender had signed the deal.

And according to Marca, Ramos phoned Ancelotti on the very day the Italian returned to the Bernabeu to begin his second spell in charge of the club.

Ramos eventually signed a two-year deal with PSG and gushed: “I am very proud to be a part of this ambitious project – to be a part of this squad with so many great players.”

The move to France could yet prove a very shrewd one for Ramos. He is now part of a star-studded PSG side which has since been joined by Barcelona legend Lionel Messi.

PSG have been installed as early favourites for the Champions League and Ramos will certainly be hoping to leave his mark in France.
