But he has certainly lived up to his billing, and a Saturday afternoon double takes Jota to seven Premier League goals this season, adding an extra fear factor to Liverpool’s already fearsome front three. 

In recent seasons, Jota is the only player to truly threaten the Reds’ established trio of Salah, Mane and Roberto Firmino. 

The Brazilian has consequently found regular game time more difficult to come by, with the former Wolves man providing a cutting edge in front of goal. 

That is a trait this entire Liverpool team have in abundance, something which became clear on Saturday at Southampton’s expense.
