Liverpool could have a very different attack should Jurgen Klopp land his two top targets to replace Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane. The two attackers are beginning to enter the final stages of their careers.
Liverpool have two young attackers in mind to replace Mane and Salah in the long-term.
And Klopp is a big fan of both of them, but whether he gets his targets this summer is another matter with the Reds keeping their cash in their pockets.
Ibrahima Konate is the only big arrival at Anfield this summer after joining from RB Leipzig and some fans are concerned.
However, with their frightening attack combo of Salah and Mane, they remain in top condition as ever.
But they will not be hanging around forever and the duo will turn 30 by the summer of 2022.
And though that is no cause to panic just yet, it does indicate that they will be entering the twilights of their careers very soon.
Their success at Liverpool has been helped by Klopp’s coaching, turning them into goal machines – but new players are already being scouted.
The first is Rennes ace Jeremy Doku, who was eyed when he was a 16-year-old at Anderlecht.
The Belgian was shown around Anfield and told he could succeed Mane only to move to Ligue 1 instead – though the Premier League giants have not forgotten about the youngster.
Doku had a fine campaign with his country at the Euros while Rennes might need to sell their best assets to make ends meet amid a tough financial year.
According to Canada outlet TSN, Liverpool have also got their sights set on Jonathan David of Lille.
Another player to leave Belgium for France in a big-money move, the 21-year-old departed Gent to move to the Northern France side last summer but could already be on his way out.
Lille had one of their best seasons in history after beating the mega-rich Paris Saint-Germain to the Ligue 1 title.
But there has a mini-exodus so far at the club with the likes of Mike Maignan and Boubakary Soumare already gone and David could join them out the exit door.
At Liverpool, the Canada international and Doku could partner Diogo Jota up front to form a new-look attack at Anfield that could form the second phase of Klopp’s tenure at the club.
