Manchester United have confirmed that former midfielder Michael Carrick will take charge of the team for their forthcoming matches. The Red Devils parted ways with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on Sunday morning following the side’s 4-1 defeat at the hands of Watford less than 24 hours earlier.
United have suffered a dismal run of form in recent months and club chiefs held an emergency meeting on Saturday night in light of their latest defeat.
During that meeting, it was felt that Solskjaer could not continue in his role and he was swiftly relieved of his duties.
Carrick was Solskjaer’s assistant and will now step-up to oversee the team, starting with Tuesday’s Champions League clash with Villarreal.
United will now look to appoint an interim manager until the end of the campaign.
