Manchester Airport emergency as firefighters scrambled to 'engine fire' on board plane

Date:

It is understood the emergency services have rushed to the aircraft, which has touched down on the runway next to Terminal 2. Passengers at Manchester Airport are reporting all flights have been grounded at the huge airport. Firefighters have been seen extinguishing the engine fire on the right side of the aircraft.

Twitter user “David Fraser” (@David__Fraser) wrote: “Wonder what’s going on at Manchester airport?

“Had a go around and now nothing taking off or landing and in holding positions.”

“Hannah Evenden” @hammerhan28 replied: “Sat on the ground waiting for take and saw a few fire engines and other emergency vehicles going past.

“They’ve said on our flight that there was an incident with an arriving flight.”

Fellow Twitter user “Dutch Holland” also wrote: “Engine fire on stand.

“It’s out but I imagine there’s no runway cover from the fire service as they are all at the aircraft.”

Express.co.uk has contacted Manchester Airport, as well as Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service for comment.

Manchester Airport has warned security queues may be longer than usual at times over the busy summer holiday period following the recovery from the Covid pandemic and as passenger numbers grow.

In a message on its website, the airport said: “Our colleagues are working tirelessly to process passengers as quickly as possible and we apologise to anyone impacted by recent disruption.

“In order to help make your journey as smooth as possible, passengers are asked not to arrive more than three hours before their flight.

“Those who arrive earlier than that may be asked to wait away from the check-in area until the recommended time for passing through security.

“This is to reduce waiting times in both security and the departure lounge. We appreciate your understanding.

The airport added: “It is also important passengers understand the latest rules about cabin bags, to avoid their hand luggage being rejected at security.

“Rejected bags can cause significant delays for all concerned.”
