Arsenal had reached a deal with Hertha Berlin to sign Rekik for £900,000 on the final day of the summer transfer window. However, the switch was not signed off in time forcing, both clubs to hold off until January.
As a result, the fee for the 19-year-old has come down to around £540,000 due to the delay – according to The Mirror.
Speaking of the transfer, Arteta told a press conference on Thursday: ‘We will announce it when we possibly can.

The 19-year-old centre back will be the first signing of the January transfer window for Arsenal
‘He’s a young talent that we’ve been following for a while that we believe has a really bright future. But we will give more details when we can.
‘Yes [the news will be soon]. [Today?] I don’t know. Very soon.’
Rekik is not expected to be part of Arteta’s first-team plans straight away, due to his lack of senior football and their current surplus in his position.
Rekik has not yet made a senior appearance for a club – having only represented Hertha Berlin at youth level.
The 19-year-old has, however, been exposed to the match-day experience, having made the bench on three occasions.
It is expected that the young centre back will continue to train with the U23’s for the time being.
A fee of £900,000 was originally agreed but that has since been lowered to £540,000
Per Mertesacker, current Arsenal academy coach, is said to have played a key part in making the deal between the Gunners and Rekik happen.
Arteta was keen to sign the youngster who has already had stints at Manchester City, Feyenoord, PSV and Marseille.
Rekik’s versatility will be valuable to the Arsenal manager as he can play on the left or right side of central defence or defensive midfield.
