Newcastle 'eye January swoop for exciting Brazilian teenager' who could cost them £25m

“We haven’t had internal discussions on January. In terms of finances and how we look in the market, a question for another day,” Howe said before the World Cup. “I think during the break we will look to January to see where we are.”

Newcastle are expecting to be busy in the January window as they seek to maintain their remarkable start to the Premier League season. A 1-0 victory over Chelsea meant they went into the mid-season break third in the league.

Howe has enjoyed plenty of success with South American players since joining Newcastle. Bruno Guimaraes has improved the Magpies’ midfield having arrived from Lyon nearly a year ago. Paraguay international Miguel Almiron has scored eight goals this season, while Joelinton has been rejuvenated in a new midfield role.
