Panic as thick plumes of black smoke blanket UK town – crews scramble to tackle huge blaze


Emergency services were called out after smoke was seen rising above Paisley in Scotland. Four engines are reported to have raced to the scene in Calside.

Concerned locals called for help, believing the former Royal Alexandra Infirmary to be engulfed in flames.

This is located off Neilston Road in Paisley.

Fire services were called to the scene just after 9pm.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue spokesperson, quoted in the Scottish Sun, said: “We were called to a fire in Calside, Paisley, at the former Royal Alexandra Infirmary.

“Four pumping appliances and two aerial appliances are at the scene.

“Crews remain in the area and on the scene.”
