Queen lamented Meghan Markle's 'fractured' family but shared close bond with her mother


The Queen “liked” Ms Ragland, a biographer and friend of the Royal Family has claimed in his upcoming book. Broadcaster Gyles Brandreth briefly described the relationship between the late sovereign and the Duchess of Sussex’s beloved mother in his new book titled “Elizabeth: An Intimate Portrait”. In an extract published by the Daily Mail, he said: “I also know that the Queen liked Meghan’s mother, and was sorry the Markle family was ‘fractured’.” Meghan’s parents Ms Ragland and Thomas Markle Snr split in the late 1980s, when their daughter was a young child. Meghan is not close to Mr Markle’s children from a previous marriage Thomas and Samantha, who were not invited to the Royal Wedding celebrated in Windsor on May 19 2018. On the other hand, Ms Ragland was sitting in a prominent position at St George’s Chapel on the day of her daughter’s wedding and appeared at ease with King Charles and Queen Camilla as they walked out of the 18th-century church together. The former MP, who was a friend of the late Prince Philip for many years, also claimed the late 96-year-old was “devoted to Harry”. He wrote: “She loved him, she thought him ‘huge fun’, and she truly wished him well in his new life abroad.”
