Queen’s Platinum Jubilee outfits to be displayed for FIRST TIME in Holyrood exhibition

Date:

The two outfits, consisting of a coat and matching hat, will go on display from Sunday until September 25 at the Palace of Holyroodhouse, in Edinburgh, as part of an exhibition celebrating the Platinum Jubilee. It coincides with the Queen and senior royals, including Prince Charles’, visit to Scotland for Holyrood Week.

The Platinum Jubilee ensembles will be displayed alongside outfits worn by Her Majesty to celebrate the Silver, Golden, Diamond and Platinum Jubilees, as well as a selection of gifts which were given to her at official engagements in Scotland throughout her 70-year reign.

For her first Platinum Jubilee appearance at Trooping the Colour, the Queen wore a pale blue dress with a matching coat and hat for the event, featuring a delicate beaded and diamanté trim.

It had also been worn by Her Majesty for the official Platinum Jubilee photograph which was taken by Ranald Mackechnie the week before.

The second ensemble she wore for the Platinum Jubilee was a green wool-crêpe dress and coat designed by Stewart Parvin, paired with a wool-crêpe hat by milliner Rachel Trevor-Morgan.

She sported the outfit when she made her appearance on the Buckingham Palace balcony after the Platinum Jubilee Pageant on June 5, which marked the end of four days of celebrations across the UK and Commonwealth.

The exhibition will also feature the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee outfit which she wore to the Service of Thanksgiving at St Paul’s Cathedral and a lunch at Guildhall, on June 5 2012.

Her ensemble for the Diamond Jubilee was created by Angela Kelly and is a pale turquoise dress and coat which is embroidered with scattered silver flowers and a coordinating hat embellished with chiffon and diamanté.

Another outfit on display is Her Majesty’s outfit for the Golden Jubilee Service of Thanksgiving in 2002 – a blue silk-crêpe coat and dress by royal couturier, Sir Hardy Amies, who began designing clothing for The Queen in 1955 and was renowned for his elegant tailoring.
