Signing Barcelona star Lionel Messi ‘is not PSG’s immediate priority’ with French side focused on extending Kylian Mbappe’s contract

  • Signing Barcelona’s Lionel Messi isn’t the priority for Paris Saint-Germain
  • PSG are currently more focused on getting Kylian Mbappe to sign a new deal
  • Striker has been integral to the success of the side since joining from Monaco
  • Mbappe’s contract expires in summer 2022 and PSG are determined to keep him

Paris Saint-Germain’s priority is to extend Kylian Mbappe’s contract rather than pursuing a move for Lionel Messi.

Messi’s Barcelona contract expires at the end of June and PSG is seen as a possible destination for him this summer.

However, as reported by L’Equipe, while PSG are in contact with Messi, they are more focused on retaining the services of Mbappe.

Mbappe sees his current PSG contract expire in the summer of 2022.

Reports in Brazil this week indicated that PSG had offered Messi a two-year contract with an option for a third, but it appears that no formal approach has been made.

Mbappe has scored 37 goals in 43 appearances across all competition this season and PSG, including manager Mauricio Pochettino, want to ensure that the 22-year-old remains at the club for the long term.

Messi was heavily linked with PSG when it appeared that he could leave Barcelona last year.

France international Mbappe, meanwhile, is a doubt for the second leg of PSG’s Champions League semi-final against Manchester City next week.

The rapid striker has a calf problem and would be a major loss to his side, who need to chase goals at the Etihad.
