Tom Kerridge weight loss: Chef shares how he lost a huge 12st with easy changes to diet


    Tom Kerridge, 48, appeared on Celebrity MasterChef last night, hosting the popular show’s semi-final challenge, the Chef’s Table. The programme will return tonight at 8pm for the big finale.

    Tom quit alcohol completely and took up swimming.

    Speaking to the Mirror in July 2020, the chef said: “I stopped drinking all by myself.

    “I knew what I wanted to do and then I got on with it. It was all about mental strength. I have an addictive personality.

    “People ask me whether I’m an alcoholic, but I think it could have been anything, it’s just that alcohol was the thing I found. Maybe I am an alcoholic, I don’t know.

    “Some days are really, really hard and some days are easy. Most of the time it’s not relevant in my life. I channel all that old drinking energy into work now.”

    “The NHS offers really sound advice about how to lose weight so I’ve taken this as the starting point for creating delicious low-calorie dishes people will want to eat every day.

    “The cooking techniques mean there’s no compromise on flavour and you’re promised a generous plate of food! I’m hoping this will help more people to lose weight and still love what they eat.”

    Tom decided to cut down on snacks too to shed the pounds. He told GQ magazine in 2017: “As a chef, I was grazing and snacking throughout service.

    “Or I’d be eating cheese on toast and packets of crisps because they were quick and there and ready to go.

    “I was a big one to skip breakfast. I didn’t have any.”

    Tom added foods that are high in protein to his diet and stuck to healthy ingredients such as vegetables, tined beans, and eggs.

    He also cut sugar from his diet, but stressed that it is okay to enjoy some treats once in a while.

    “There is nothing wrong with a flapjack in the afternoon when you get that 4pm lull if everything else is in place,” Tom added.

    The chef has also continued to use full-fat cheese, milk, yoghurt, and double cream while cooking, calling these foods his “dopamine heroes”.

    As for exercise, over lockdown Tom began to run 20 to 25k a week to stay in shape.

    This is a habit the chef has stuck to beyond lockdown, and he often posts his progress on social media.

    In August this year, he wrote on Instagram: “Life is pretty busy at the moment and finding time to train is hard.

    “So a midnight 18km on the @wattbike and then leg stretch on a pool table at home is as close as I’ve been able to get to the @themarlowclubofficial at the moment.”

    The Marlow Club is a fitness centre Tom frequents in Marlow, Buckinghamshire, not far from his home.
