Tottenham making Pep Guardiola's 'Harry Kane team' comment look silly after latest win

Tottenham got their Premier League campaign off to a winning start yesterday against last season’s defending champions Manchester City – giving want-away striker Harry Kane a headache in terms of his next move.

Kane has made no secret of his desire to leave Tottenham in search of trophies, which is something Spaniard Pep Guardiola’s side can offer him after winning thirteen accolades in just ten seasons.

The England captain, 28, has yet to win a major trophy in his career – falling short at two finals hurdles with Spurs, and most notably the Euro 2020 penalty shoot-out defeat suffered with the Three Lions at the hands of Italy.

With Kane willing to finally leave the side he joined as a child, City have registered their interest, sparking rumours galore as he was left out of the squad for yesterday’s clash.

Yet Nuno Espirito Santo’s side beat Pep’s star-studded outfit 1-0 at a packed out Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to get the Lilywhites off to a flyer ahead of the new campaign.

Son Heung-min’s brilliant drive from the edge of the box ensured all three points remained in Tottenham.

And even then, the Englishman departed the field early in one of the fixtures he did play a part in.

It is still yet to be seen whether Kane will depart for the Champions League finalists’, given Daniel Levy’s reluctance to lose his main asset.

With Grealish having already signed, City would have to sell to buy.

And it is not clear exactly who they would be prepared to let go, meaning they are in danger of not being able to raise enough to buy Kane.

Meanwhile, Spurs face Nuno’s former side Wolves on Sunday.

Nuno left the West Midlands outfit at the end of last season by mutual consent.

Bernardo Silva appears to be on his way out the door after signalling his intentions to leave the club, and there could be more to follow if Kane is to sign.

City look to get the wheels turning in their bid to regain the title as they face Norwich on Saturday.
