UK weather: Brits face drought as temperatures set to hit 33C – 'Another level!'

The south of England will face a heatwave throughout this week, according to a forecast by WXCHARTS. The weather forecasting website revealed parts of England could see temperatures exceed 30C.

Mercury looks likely to hover below 30C on Monday and Tuesday, with parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland seeing temperatures closer to 20C.

However, Wednesday will see many areas from the Wash to the River Severn face 30C or more, peaking at 31C in the west of England.

Brits will experience scorching conditions on Thursday when temperatures could reach as high as 33C in England and Wales.

Scottish and Northern Irish residents will likely only see temperatures reach the mid-20s.

The news comes just days after the Environment Agency warned “many parts of England will move into drought”.

Dr Simon Lee, a postdoctoral research scientist at Columbia University and co-editor-in-chief of the Royal Meteorological Society journal Weather, also pointed out how conditions look a little different compared to recent years.

Writing on Twitter, he said: “Terra/MODIS view of southeast England today and on this day two years ago, when 36.4C was reached at Heathrow and Kew Gardens (at the time the ninth hottest day on record, now down in 11th place).

“Grasses turned brown in both summers, but this year just takes it to another level.”

Looking ahead to later this week, the UK’s weather service added: “Dry with plenty of sunshine for most and feeling hot across central and southern areas.

“Cloudy and breezy for north and west of Scotland with some drizzly rain at times.”
